Get to know MMJ

Welcome to Melissa Morrison Jewellery, nestled in the quaint seaside village of Petite Rivière, on the picturesque South Shore of Nova Scotia. The MMJ studio is a sanctuary where creativity thrives, and beautiful creations come to life.

Melissa embraces the slow-made movement. Each piece, from bespoke creations to her evolving contemporary range, is meticulously crafted in-house with a focus on design, wearability, and permanence.

The Melissa Morrison Jewellery Shop, situated along the coast in LaHave, showcases a curated selection of products from independent Maritime artists, each piece reflecting the artist's unique artistic heritage and craftsmanship.

MELISSA'S STORY

Melissa Morrison Jewellery is the culmination of Melissa's lifelong love affair with crafting beauty from the world around her. Living and working on the South Shore with her husband and their three children is not just a choice; it's a way of life that continually inspires and rejuvenates them.

Their days are filled with the simple pleasures of swimming in the sea, breathing in the fresh air, and finding joy in the small things. This environment not only nurtures family life but also infuses Melissa's creations with a deep sense of connection to nature and community.

Melissa graduated in 2003 from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, with a BFA Major in Jewellery Design and Metalsmithing. After spending years honing her skills as a goldsmith for several boutique jewellery stores, Melissa decided to open her own studio in 2018. Melissa Morrison Jewellery is a manifestation of a passion for creating timeless pieces that tell a story and connect with those who wear them.

THE CREATIVE PRACTICE

Melissa works by the mantra, ‘Explore, Create & Connect’. Each piece is not just an adornment, but a modern heirloom imbued with wild-hearted design and meaning that transcends mere beauty.

Inspiration strikes in the most unexpected moments, leading Melissa to interpret natural forms and capture fleeting emotions. Her hands-on process involves carving wax and mark-making on metal, resulting in textures and nuances that reflect a unique organic beauty.

Crafted mainly in sterling silver, bronze, and brass, each piece is handmade in the studio. Melissa believes in creating timeless and considered pieces that are more than just accessories—they are keepsakes that tell a story and forge a connection.

Join MMJ in celebrating the beauty of imperfection and embracing the stories that our jewellery holds. Each creation is a wearable story, inspired by life's experiences and translated into timeless pieces that resonate with the heart.
